It's official! Google Chrome in version 1

Version 1 of Google's much-hailed browser, Chrome, isn't the same beast it was in beta. This version has gotten up to 1.5 times faster than it's ever been, fixes a slew of bugs, and tightens up its take on privacy and bookmarking.

Google's browser, Chrome, is officially leaving beta today.

Yesterday at the Le Web 08 conference in Paris, Google VP Marissa Mayer told TechCrunch's Mike Arrington that the move would be happening, but she did not say when. Google representatives have confirmed the Thursday change of status for Chrome.

How to get it
The first people to get the non-beta version will be new users who download the browser directly from Google. Also Thursday, a small proportion of existing Chrome users will automatically get the update. On Friday, all the remaining Chrome users (10 million, according to Google) will get the download. (You can also download it from CNET here.)

If you want to know whether you have the update, check Chrome's About page. If you don't have the current version, you can force the update from the dialog box. Normally, Chrome checks for updates every fifth hour of use.

The update system has been used for 14 updates of the beta product so far. This 15th update will be the first non-beta release.

Chrome's privacy options are now in one place.

What's included
Sundar Pichai, vice president of product development, told me that this release of Chrome will have "tons and tons of bug fixes," especially around audio and video playback, which should now be "more stable." Chrome will also be faster. Pichai said Google's browser is 1.4 to 1.5 times faster (depending on which benchmarks you use) than it was at launch.

There are new features, as well. The bookmark manager is being revised to do a better job for people who have lots of bookmarks, and for those who want to import or export bookmark lists. Privacy options have all been consolidated into one dialog box. And there are improvements in the security features of the browser.

Features that the team is still working on include autofill for forms, native support for RSS feeds, "and so on." But the top three features that Pichai says he and his team are working on are extension support and Mac and Linux versions.

"All the developement is in the open," Pichai said. Curious users can monitor Chrome's progress at Chromium.org, or download the Google Chrome Channel Chooser, which will tell their installation of Chrome to download either the betas between major updates of Chrome, or even the nightly (and often buggy) builds of the browser as it is developed. Pichai recommends that last option for those dying of curiosity about Chrome's upcoming extension support.

What's in a Google beta?
For a Google product, Chrome is leaving beta very quickly -- 100 days after public launch. Pichai said that Chrome now meets Google's "internal standards for stability and performance" and that its heavy use inside Google before its public release has contributed to its rapid graduation to released product status.

But clearly there's more at play here than that. For comparison's sake, only recently did Google remove the beta tag from Picasa, and it was years old and in its third major version. Gmail is still in beta, despite being relied on by tens of millions of users.

Google has big plans and goals for Chrome. Truly widespread adoption of the product won't happen in businesses or on the pre-installed software suites of new computers until the product is not just known to be stable by users but vouched for as production-ready by Google -- and that means taking it out of beta, even if the word itself means less than it used to.

Google Friend Connect : Now Available...

Google Friend Connect Beta is now available... hurray.... will try it out soon....

We're pleased to share that Google Friend Connect is now available in beta to any webmaster looking to add a "dash of social" to his or her site. This service lets webmasters add social features to their sites by simply copying and pasting a few snippets of code — no advanced coding or technical background required.

We know that people want to be social on the web, and Friend Connect makes it easy for anyone to sign in to a website, share a little bit about themselves through a personal profile, discover other people with similar interests, invite their contacts, and interact with friends. Even better, you don't have to deal with the hassle of creating yet another username and password — Friend Connect lets you log in using an existing account from Google, Yahoo, AOL, or OpenID. Similarly, you can choose to either establish a new profile or use profiles and friend sources from other social networks that have opened up their services, like Plaxo and orkut. To learn more, watch the video tour below:

We launched Friend Connect as a preview release in May, and since then we have been working closely with a handful of website owners, social networks, and application developers to improve its speed and scalability, ease of use, and customization capabilities. We've also expanded the features available to users with richer, more integrated profiles and new ways to discuss and share content, like including YouTube videos in your comments.

Friend Connect's goal is to facilitate an open social web. Using open standards like OpenID and OAuth, Friend Connect makes it simple for people to instantly interact with one another on the sites that they already love to visit. Additionally, websites that use Friend Connect become OpenSocial containers, capable of running applications created by the OpenSocial developer community.

In the coming months, we're excited to see more webmasters add Friend Connect to their sites, helping their visitors engage with each other across the web.

Bill Clinton to Give Lecture in Malaysia

It a lot of good events coming out in Malaysia, and best of all, all these event are free. Below is a events I saw on The Star Newspaper. So for those who interested please register fast.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former US president Bill Clinton will make his first trip to Malaysia to deliver the inaugural BC Sekhar memorial lecture on Dec 6.

And the good news is the lecture is open to the public, not just politicians and business leaders.

Petra Group founder Datuk Vinod Sekhar, who had invited Clinton to Malaysia, said any interested member of the public who wants to hear the lecture would be able to do so.

“We want to give everyone the opportunity. Clinton is a visionary leader and an inspiration to millions,” Vinod told reporters at a press conference here yesterday.

He asked those interested to send an e-mail to [email protected] after 1pm today with their name, address, contact number and identity card number. Applications sent before 1pm will not be considered.

“The venue for the luncheon lecture will be decided depending on the response. Everyone has an equal chance of attending and tickets are free.”

The lecture is being organised by the Sekhar Foundation with the support of the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute.

Clinton, who will be in Kuala Lumpur immediately after the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Hong Kong, will also be awarded the BC Sekhar Medal for Transformational Leadership.

Vinod said the new award would be given annually to individuals who have demonstrated a lifetime of commitment to bringing about positive and practical change to the world.

He added that Clinton would be in town for about two days and was not sure whether Senator Hillary Clinton would be coming along.

“She indicated that she was keen but now with the situation in the US after the Democratic win, I think she would be busy taking care of what is happening there.”

Clinton said in a statement that he was honoured to visit Malaysia for the first time and that he looked forward to meeting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Foxmark- Sync Your Password and Sync Different PC with Different Profile

Foxmarks 2.5 have added a few new features which I think it is quite useful. With the new foxmarks you can sync your password and sync your different bookmark to different PC using Sync Profiles.

Password Synchronization works silently in the background to make sure that your passwords are the same on all your computers. If you add, remove or update a password on one computer, Foxmarks will make sure that your change will automatically be made on all your other computers as well. It works in a similar manner to bookmark synchronization with two major differences:

  1. Password Synchronization is completely optional and is turned off by default. Foxmarks will ignore your passwords until you decide to synchronize them.
  2. Password Sycnhronization encrypts your passwords using a secret PIN of your choosing before they ever leave your computer. This ensures that nobody but you, not even Foxmarks, can gain access to your passwords.
For More information about Foxmarks Sync Password visit
While Sync Profile makes it easy to keep some bookmarks from syncing to all your computers. If you use different Toolbars at work and at home, or if you have some private bookmarks that you don't want to sync to your work machine, Sync Profiles is your solution. For more infomation about Foxmarks Sync Password & Sync Profile visit http://www.foxmarks.com/

New stuff in iGoogle

If you wish you could deal with all your stuff without having to leave your iGoogle page. With today's release, you can. Google had rolled out an updated design for iGoogle to all U.S. users, which includes full canvas views for gadget and support for full feed reading. Hope they will launch for other countries soon. Below is some details of the new features of iGoogle :

Not all of iGoogle gadgets have canvas views yet, but here are some of the best:

  • News - New gadgets from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post give me full-page views of what's new in the world. Nice.

  • Games - The Sudoku gadget lets me play thousands of full-page Sudoku puzzles without squinting at 6-point type. The GoComics gadget gives me my fix of Garfield and Doonesbury and lets me choose from all of their other comics. I've also spent many coffee breaks browsing through videos from YouTube and CurrentTV.

  • Entertainment - I've configured the TV Guide gadget to my zip code and just used it today to figure out when the newest episode of The Office is playing. Flixster's movies gadget lets me access trailers, ratings, and theater information for any movie. I also use the iLike gadget to browse news, concerts, and free MP3s from my favorite musicians.

  • Google stuff - The new Gmail gadget lets me read my full email and perform simple actions like send or reply to emails without leaving iGoogle. Last but not least, a gadget that I authored and use every day is for Google Finance, which provides full-screen finance charts and news of the stocks in my portfolio. Here's a full list of our highlighted canvas view gadgets.

Google also replaced the tabs at the top with a left navigation that allows for access to any gadget with one click. These changes makes iGoogle a more useful homepage and a better platform for developers. And this is just the beginning: Expect to see more canvas gadgets created by developers and more new features on iGoogle soon. Not in the U.S.? Don't worry. Google will be rolling out this updated version in other countries very soon.

Free Parental Control Software - Blue Coat K9 Web Protection

For Parents who are concerning about the web content browse by their children, this is a great free tools to protect your children from accessing unwanted content. I personally tried this service and it is very easy to use and it would slow down your browsing experience. Below is an overview of K9 Web Protection:

<

Blue Coat® K9 Web Protection is a content filtering solution for your home computer. Its job is to provide you with a family-safe Internet experience, where YOU control the Internet content that enters your home. K9 Web Protection implements the same enterprise-class Web filtering technology used by Blue Coat's Fortune 500 customers around the world, wrapped in simple, friendly, and reliable software for your Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista computer.

Blue Coat's unique Web filtering technology divides Internet content into 60 distinct categories. These categories are stored in the master Blue Coat database, through which we maintain and update more than 15 million ratings of websites and domains. A Web site will fall into one or more of these categories, based on the content of the site. To meet your particular needs and preferences, you can configure the software to block or allow specific categories.

K9 Web Protection is different from other solutions for the home in several important respects:

  • Service-based filtering – Blue Coat's filtering database operates as a service. It receives and rates over 80 million requests every day, making it the most accurate content filtering database available. This accuracy is important in protecting your family, given the Internet's rapid changes and growth. Plus, there is no database to download. K9 Web Protection won't clog your Internet connection, get "stale" or out of date, or slow down your computer like other products do.
  • Dynamic Real-Time Rating™ (DRTR) – Blue Coat's patent-pending DRTR technology is a very powerful element in our solution, and is vastly different from the old-fashioned "key word filtering" that is so frustrating to users. Using a method of statistical analysis and artificial intelligence to rate new or previously unrated Web pages, DRTR can determine the category of a URL on the fly, without human intervention. However, DRTR only renders a rating when it is confident that it has reached an accurate conclusion.

We've focused DRTR on recognizing the kinds of categories most likely to be blocked. In particular, DRTR is highly accurate in blocking pornography and other "adult content" sites. This focus for DRTR is particularly important because these kinds of sites are constantly – daily and even hourly – popping up on the Internet, and no static database can keep up.
  • Automatic updating – Automatic updates of the K9 Web Protection application ensure that you are always protected by the latest features. For example, in Spring of 2005, we added two new categories to our solution: Spyware/Malware Sources, and Spyware Effects/Privacy Concerns. By electing to block sites in these categories, your computer's rate of infection by unwanted software can be reduced dramatically. We have a variety of new features planned, and your K9 installation will automatically receive updates that include them.
  • Efficient caching – K9 Web Protection is a product from Blue Coat. Blue Coat is recognized world-wide as expert in high-performance caching and secure proxy technology. We take advantage of that expertise in K9, so your Internet experience is as fast, reliable, and safe as we can make it.

Unlike other filtering solutions, K9 Web Protection ensures the highest level of protection by building the most relevant ratings database available. Its effective coverage reaches more than one billion Web pages. With K9 Web Protection, you finally have a chance to build a family-safe Internet experience for your home, simply and easily.

P1 starts offering Wimax service in Klang Valley, Malaysia

Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (P1) today officially opened its doors for Malaysians to subscribe to its WiMAX services, branded as P1 W1MAX. Yang Berhormat Dato’ Shaziman Abu Mansor, Minister of Energy, Water and Communications was there to officiate the historic accomplishment at the grand launch of P1 W1MAX services. P1’s CEO Michael Lai said, “We are indeed proud of the fact that we have put Malaysia on the world map of WiMAX.

Today, not only is P1 the first WiMAX operator in Malaysia to open for subscriptions, but we are also one of the first in the world to offer WiMAX service commercially. We believe that WiMAX will change the Malaysian broadband landscape and the way we live, learn, work and play, and lay the foundation towards achieving Malaysia’s National Broadband Plan and MyICMS 886 objectives because of the very strong proposition of the WiMAX eco‐system known as the DNA‐Device, Network and Applications are, all in place.”

Lai also thanked the Malaysian government for having the foresight on the potential of WiMAX as a catalyst for the nation’s development, and being one of the first countries in the world to issue the WiMAX license as early as March 2007. P1 today introduced two promotional packages to meet consumer and business needs. The promotion runs from 20 August to 30 September 2008. They are:

P1 W1MAX broadband is now available immediately in the following areas: KLCC, Golden Triangle, Pekeliling, Setapak, Gombak, Seri Rampai, Sentul, Pudu, selected areas in Subang Jaya, USJ 1, USJ 7 and Subang Hi‐Tech area. P1’s deployment is supported by Intel, which recently invested RM50 million (approx. US$15m) in P1’s parent company, Green Packet Berhad.

In addition, by the end of 2008, P1 targets to extend its WiMAX broadband coverage to Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Klang and Port Klang and others within the Klang Valley; Johor Bahru; Kedah; Perak; Negeri Sembilan; Melaka and all major towns and cities in the West Coast of Peninsula Malaysia.

P1 made another historical milestone today having received the honorable status in the Malaysia Book of Records on two counts,

1 The First WiMAX Telco
2 The First 10 WiMAX subscribers

Ryaz Patel, Country Manager, Sales and Marketing, Intel Malaysia who attended P1’s grand launch today said, “This is a significant milestone in the growth of WiMAX globally. “IDC Malaysia indicated that notebook sales in Malaysia had continued to outpace desktops during 2008, with more than 1.3 million1 units sold – representing nearly 60 percent of the total available market in Malaysia. Intel believes the increasing availability of high‐speed wireless broadband, such as P1’s 802.16e WiMAX network, will accelerate this trend towards adoption of mobile computing in Malaysia and beyond.”

“The value proposition of 802.16e WiMAX is the Internet as it was meant to be: open, fast and mobile,” Patel continued. “2008 is a milestone year for WiMAX, with more than 300 trials and commercial deployments underway worldwide. Intel will continue to support the growth of the WiMAX ecosystem in Asia,” said Patel.

The fever for Beijing Olympic 2008 is heating up, especially the Opening Ceremony on 8 August 2008. Here are some site, which you can watch the Beijing Olympic 2008 Live Online and Live. If you got any good site to share please let me know I would love to add it here.

- Login to NBC Olympics site.
- Australia residents, Yahoo! 7 provides real-time coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
- US residents with computers running on Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate can download free videos of the latest Olympic events via NBC Olympics on the Go delivered by TVTonic.

- A Chinese Site Call PPstream http://2008.pps.tv

-NOS (Dutch)
-Veetle.com
-Myp2p.eu

For US User please note:

A more convoluted option: Watch video that's supposed to be online, but not for your eyes. As we've noted, for instance, YouTube has a dedicated channel -- but only for users outside the U.S. In order to watch it, you'll need to trick YouTube into thinking that you're watching from somewhere else. That means you'll have to configure your browser to use a proxy server and then redirect your Internet connection through a country on YouTube's whitelist like South Korea.

Google Knol - Another way to share your Knowledge

Google recently just announced the open of Google Knol for everyone. Since it first annouced, Google only open this service for invited user only. Now it is finally open to everyone. For more details you can check out this two blog posted by google:

First Annouced: Encouraging People to Share Knowledge

Public Launced : Knol is Open to Everyone

Official Site of Google Knol

This some brief details about knol.

Knol : A unit of knowledge.

A knol is an authoritative article about a specific topic.

Knol makes it easy for you to write and share your knowledge with the world.

Knol offers:
  • Ease of use
All you need is an account, a name and a desire to write and we'll take care of the rest.
  • Control
You specify the level of collaboration you want with the community. Your knol, your voice.
  • Community
You can connect with other experts in your area of interest to share and grow knowledge.
  • Visibility
We value and promote authorship. Great content will be visible on any search engine.
  • Growth
Sharing your knowledge with the world is rewarding for everyone.

The Knol site has one goal: to help you share what you know.

The Knol project is a site that hosts many knols — units of knowledge — written about various subjects. The authors of the knols can take credit for their writing, provide credentials, and elicit peer reviews and comments. Users can provide feedback, comments, and related information. So the Knol project is a platform for sharing information, with multiple cues that help you evaluate the quality and veracity of information.

Knols are indexed by the big search engines, of course. And well-written knols become popular the same as regular web pages. The Knol site allows anyone to write and manage knols through a browser on any computer.

So what subjects can I write on?

(Almost) anything you like. You pick the subject and write it the way you see fit. We don't edit knols nor do we try to enforce any particular viewpoint – your knol should be written as you want it to be written. Of course, knols are

subject to Terms of Service and Content Policy to ensure a good experience for all users and compliance with applicable laws.

What if someone else has already written an article on that subject?

No problem, you can still write your own article. In fact, the Knol project is a forum for encouraging individual voices and perspectives on topics. As mentioned, no one else can edit your knol (unless you permit it) or mandate how you write about a topic. If you do a search on a topic, you may very well see more than one knol in the search results. Of course, people are free to disagree with you, to write their own knols, to post comments and ratings.

Can I collaborate with other authors?

Of course. For each knol you can choose to write on your own or collaborate with other authors.

Can I write knols in languages other than English?

Absolutely. However, it will take us some time to localize the interface into various languages. Sorry, we cannot pre-announce when any given language will be available.

Can I search for knols on a specific subject?

Yes, you can search on Google or other search engines to find knols, like any other web pages. You can also use the Search button found on the Knol homepage and on each knol to search.

How do I get started writing my own knols?

Here are some links to knols that may be helpful to you:

  • Using the formatting bar

Where else can I discuss or get help on Knol?

Several authors have noticed that there is a forum at http://groups.google.com/group/knol-users/topics where people share tips and tricks about Knol. Keep in mind that this forum is user-driven and not moderated by the Knol team (although we do take a peek from time to time to look for great suggestions...)
